It was Friday night and everyone was lined up outside the doors of the Palace Theatre. It was another sold-out show for Matt and the boys on their Once Upon a Hell of a Time… tour. The opening act was special guest Dustin Bentall, son of the legendary Barney Bentall. Dustin and the band were very much home on the stage. They had a fresh, fun sound and got the crowd going. It’s nice to see Dustin follow in his father’s footsteps.
When Matt Mays took the stage, the crowd’s energy was awesome and continued for the entire set. Matt was very interactive with the audience. At one point in the show, he climbed up on a side area to get a little closer to the crowd. They loved it and held their hands high to catch Matt in case he stumbled. Matt also thanked the crowd for their support as the last time he had toured in Alberta, he had lost a bandmate suddenly and tragically on tour. Close to the end of the night there was a tribute to Tom Petty with Matt and the band performing a rendition of Free Falling. it was a great night for all in attendance!
